We'll show you the most beautiful places in Thuringia, as well as the best photo spots, so you can not only collect great experiences but also capture them in beautiful pictures.

1. Belvedere Palace

One of the most beautiful places in Thuringia is undoubtedly Belvedere Palace. Known as a pleasure palace south of Weimar, it lets you not only admire the magnificent building but also enjoy a walk in the park with its orangery. The baroque summer residence belonged to the House of Saxe-Weimar.

Since 1923 the palace has been used as an art museum, displaying special porcelain that belonged to the ducal house. The museum combined with the artistic interior is a real highlight. Note that much of the original furnishing was lost, so period pieces are now used instead.

2. Krämerbrücke in Erfurt

The Krämerbrücke in Erfurt is a well-known landmark and an absolute must when you're on holiday in Thuringia. Stroll across the bridge and feel like you're in Italy. What's special is that the bridge is built on and actually inhabited. It's the longest bridge of its kind in Germany.

At 120 m long, it spans several sandstone arches. Churches were built at both ends, but only one of them survives. Originally there were 62 houses, but because they were very narrow they were combined, so today there are 32 houses. A walk across the bridge is a real experience, as many shops sell exclusive products. A visit to this Thuringian photo spot should definitely be on your itinerary.

3. Drachenschlucht (Dragon Gorge)

Near Eisenach you can not only admire a special natural monument, but also marvel at the power of nature. The 200 m long gorge is over 250 million years old and was formed by a stream that cut its way into the depths over time.

The natural monument has since been developed into a hiking route, so you can admire this natural spectacle with a rushing stream, moss-covered rocks and many special plants and animals. At its narrowest point the gorge is just 68 cm wide, so you can literally feel nature around you. Whether on a guided tour or on your own, a voyage of discovery through the Drachenschlucht is one of the best photo spots in Thuringia. Its history can be explored in the "Leben am Fluss" (life on the river) exhibition, which opened in 2007. Besides the mill itself, which is still in operation, there's an aquarium system fed with water from the Ilm river.

The aquariums show the regional fish species. Note that the aquarium system closes in winter due to the low temperatures. Learn more about fishing in the region – and of course you can buy fresh fish in the farm shop for a real treat.

The right camera equipment for cities and natural landscapes

If you travel a lot, you'll know the problem: the photos you've taken don't convey the atmosphere you experienced. This is often due to equipment that isn't suitable for every situation, such as cities and natural landscapes. Fortunately, there's Kamera Express, the camera expert that helps you put together the right equipment.

DSLR cameras

A DSLR is the perfect camera if you want lots of creative freedom. A built-in mirror shows exactly the image captured through the lens in the viewfinder. This gives you optimal sharpness and quality. Numerous settings make the camera suitable for different situations, which is why many photographers choose a DSLR.

Choosing the right camera isn't easy, so it's best to rely on a specialist. Kamera Express offers the best brands, including Canon, Nikon and Pentax, so you can create unique photos.

Lenses

A lens is chosen to achieve a particular effect and optimise the result. Especially with a DSLR, you can change lenses. There are different types: some regulate the incoming light, others help optimise focus. This way you get perfect results, whether you're shooting in the city or in nature.

Selfie sticks

Do you know the problem of travelling alone and hardly being able to take a photo of yourself with a sight? A selfie stick can be the solution. It's a monopod that triggers the camera via a release button or Bluetooth, so you can photograph yourself or the whole group in front of any backdrop. You'll find more tips for group photography in our inspiration section.

Selfie sticks are often sold for smartphones, but there are now also models suitable for cameras. If you come into contact with water a lot, for example during water sports, choose a waterproof model.

Action cams

Action cams have been developed especially for outdoor activities. They offer top quality at high speeds and can withstand strong external influences, such as rain, knocks, wind and extreme temperatures. Whether cycling, surfing or hiking, simply attach the compact action cam to your helmet, backpack or handlebars and capture your experience in top HD quality.

Kamera Express has a wide range of models, so you can find your perfect action cam. Of course, the best brands such as Insta360, GoPro and Sony are represented.
